Finally!

Later Friday afternoon we finally received the news that Vince Dunn and the Seattle Kraken had come to an agreement on a new contract. 4 years at 7.35 million a season. Honestly this is a best case scenario deal for the Seattle Kraken. Dunn at 26 years old put up a career season for the Kraken with 64 points in 81 games, playing like a legitimate #1 defenseman against elite competition.

I was expecting a contract somewhere in the 7.5 to 8.5 million a year deal with a 7 or 8 year deal. Instead we get a 7.35 million over 4 years, taking Dunn to 30 years of age and UFA status. This is a deal that gives Dunn the chance to still go after one more big pay day at the age of 30 and gives Seattle more cap flexibility and reduces the risk that comes with signing defensemen to long contracts well into their 30's.

With that the Kraken's roster is essentially set with just a hair under 1 million in cap space. There is still the option to sign another depth contract or more depending on if they try and trade a contract such as netminder Chris Driedger. This was the final key piece of business that Seattle had to take care of.

What are your thoughts on the contract?
