On Monday, the Seattle Kraken added a veteran voice to their coaching staff in Dave Lowry. Lowry, formerly the interim head coach of the Winnipeg Jets is a former NHL player of more than 1000 games.

Lowry's coaching career involves a long tenure in the WHL where he was named Coach of the Year twice with the Victoria Royals. His first NHL experience behind a bench was in 2009 with the Calgary Flames where he served as an assistant coach for three seasons. His next chance would come in 2017 with the LA Kings for two seasons before once more returning to the WHL. After being hired as an assistant coach with the Jets in 2020, Lowry took over from Paul Maurice on December 17th, 2021. The Jets had the 17th best record from the beginning of the season to Maurice's exit. They had the 20th best record from thereon when Lowry took over.

Bringing in more veteran voices to help bolster a coaching staff is usually a good decision and I do not have any issue with Lowry being brought in, as long as he isn't viewed as the replacement for Hakstol, should he be fired.

With a much stronger overall roster, it is crucial to see this Seattle Kraken team at least take steps forward this season to be competitive and should they falter early, I could see Hakstol quickly ushered out. Lowry as a potential replacement does not move the needle in my eyes.
