Hello everyone and welcome to another Expansion Blog. We are slowly getting to the end of the draft now!

Today I am joined by MaximumBone who has graciously provided me a Canucks Expansion List.

VANCOUVER CANUCKS PROTECTION LIST

FORWARDS

Brock Boeser - RW
Bo Horvat - C
J.T. Miller - LW
Jake Virtanen - RW
Adam Gaudette - C
Elias Pettersson - C
Kole Lind - RW

DEFENSE

Nate Schmidt - LD
Olli Juolevi - LD
Brogan Rafferty - RD

GOALIE

Thatcher Demko

The forward picks are mostly obvious with Lind making the cut on account of his youth. I love Roussel's game but youth takes priority.

As for the defense, I'm assuming both Juolevi and Rafferty play significant NHL time this year. Better to protect the youth than worry about protecting a big money Dman that likely doesn't get selected by Seattle if exposed. And if they do, great! There's an extra 6mil to use in a market that likely still has some flat cap-related value deals to be had!

Thanks so much for the list!

Here are some notable players left exposed.

Michael Ferland - A solid complimentary winger who put up two 40 point seasons in a row before injuries depleted him last season.

Antoine Roussel - Plug and play bottom six winger who brings it every night.

Tyler Myers - Huge defender with a big shot from the point capable of producing some solid offense on the backend.

Braden Holtby - The netminder had a rough season last year in Washington and all eyes will be on him for a bounceback performance this season.

SEATTLE SELECTS.....

Braden Holtby

At some point I technically needed to pick another goalie and so adding Holtby is certainly not a bad decision. The netminder may not be the Vezina worthy goalie he was in years past but a tandem of Holtby and Khudobin with Hill in wait is a pretty solid group for a team that will likely let in a bunch of goals.
