Stow this one away for a future trivia night everyone. The Seattle Kraken have signed their first player. Luke Henman, the 21 year old centreman who captained the Blainville-Boisbriand Armada of the QMJHL has signed a 3 year ELC deal with the Seattle Kraken. The left shot foward put up 16 goals and 43 points in 32 games this season. Currently his team is in the middle of a playoff series against the Victoriaville Tigres. Henman has 6 goals in 7 playoff games.

Henman is not a big player. A 6' and 172 lbs the centreman has had to rely on his skating and playmaking ability to be a productive player. When he was drafted back in 2018, originally by the Carolina Hurricanes, the biggest knock against him was that he didn't engage enough in the more physical aspects of the game. As he has started to fill out that has become less of a concern according to his coaches. Consistency as always is a concern with younger players but now at 21, Henman has become a better player and a leader for his team.

Even with an expansion roster, it is highly unlikely Henman will join the team in the NHL this season and may be loaned to another AHL team. The Kraken do have an AHL affiliate in Palm Springs but that team will not play until the 2022/2023 season.

GM Ron Francis needs to continue to find potential diamonds in the rough like Henman and will be counting on his coaching staff and scouts to continue to find players like this, both in North America and beyond that could become valuable pieces to the roster.

In the meantime this is an exciting day both for the organization as well as for this young man. We will be tracking his career with great interest and hope he can find a way to make the jump to the NHL. Welcome to the TentaClan Luke!
