UPDATE 3
Oilers continue to get things done under Jeff Jackson.

Oilers signed Corey Perry to a new one year deal (1.45 million), Janmark to a 3 year deal (1.45AAV), and now Jeff Skinner to a one year deal worth 3 million.

Let's focus on the Skinner deal for a second. This is a real nice piece of business for the Edmonton Oilers. Skinner may not have been worth the 9 million dollar a year contract he had from Buffalo but he is certainly more than worth the 1 year 3 million dollars the Oilers are now paying him.

Skinner has proven to be a 30+ goal scorer on the Sabres and while his defensive side of the game has issues, his offensive side certainly can make up for it. Skinner is by far the most offensively gifted player the Oilers have ever gotten to play alongside McDavid or Draisaitl.

The top six for Edmonton is looking something like this now:

RNH-McDavid-Hyman
Skinner-Draisaitl-Arvidsson

Not bad at all.

UPDATE 2

The Oilers have added their Vincent Desharnais replacement in Josh Brown, a 6'5 220lb physical defender who played for the Coyotes last season. It is a 3 year deal with an AAV of 1 million per season. Don't love this player or deal but at the end of the day this is a #7 defenseman who can be buried in the minors pretty easily if need be.

The interesting update here is that the Edmonton Oilers are apparently looking hard at Jeff Skinner. I expected Edmonton to go after one top six forward but if they can sign Skinner on an inexpensive one year contract than that could be excellent value for the Edmonton Oilers. Draisaitl needs a legit top six player to play with and there is the potential he might have two legit options at hand.

UPDATE
This one has been telegraphed for awhile but it looks like veteran top six forward Viktor Aridsson is joining the Edmonton Oilers. The 31 year old right shot has always been a productive 5 on 5 scorer but had much of his last season hampered by injuries. Edmonton has been looking for an established top six winger to play with Leon Draisaitl and Arvidsson is an excellent option.

The contract is fantastic for the Oilers too. It is a 2 year deal with a 4 million dollar AAV. I expected the contract to be at least 3 or 4 years. Arvidsson should still be a very productive player over the next two seasons.

There are also rumours that Edmonton is looking at winger Andrej Kase. Kase had some productive moments in the NHL but injuries always hampered his time. He spent all of last season in the Czech league where he put up 23 goals in 48 games. Could be an interesting depth add if it gets done.

---

Today could be an intriguing day for the Edmonton Oilers, we know they are targetting a top six winger and potentially a right shot defenseman. One of the big questions in addition to that is how many of their UFA's they will be able to bring back.

A couple have already returned as Connor Brown has signed a 1 year 1 million dollar deal with the Oilers which is a great deal. After an abyssmal regular season, Brown was a huge asset on the Oilers PK in the playoffs and particularly later in the Florida series scored some timely goals. I look forward to seeing what Brown can do now that he is past his injury issues.

The Oilers have also signed James Hamblin to a two year two way deal at league minimum. Hamblin could be a fourth line centre for the Oilers this season as he did play over 30 games last season.

Will update as the day goes on!
