UPDATE

The Oilers made it official this morning. A 775k one year contract for the remainder of this season. There are bonuses to the deal as well but those are not known at this time. Perry will wear #90.

Looks like there will be a press conference at 12:30MT

---

After winning their 13th game in a row against the Calgary Flames it's looking like the Oilers are giving their fans something else to discuss.

David Pagnotta was the first to report this today:

The 38 year old Corey Perry is a 6'3 208lb right winger who plays a physical game while still having a scoring touch. In the 16 games he played for the Hawks this season he had 4 goals and 9 points in 16 games.

On the Oilers, Perry will be a bottom six right winger that will add another needed element. The Oilers have been playing phenomenally but there is still room for improvement and this is certainly an upgrade.

As for the "incident" and Perry's contract termination.

We still do not know exactly what happened. Elliotte Friedman had reported that while he didn't know all the details, he believed it was not something that would have resulted in a contract termination anywhere else but because of past incidents, most predominantly the Kyle Beach situation, the Hawks felt they needed to be strict. There were reports that the NHL Players Association may challenge the NHL on his termination.

Regardless the Oilers have now proven they are a legitimate Cup contender. They have not only won 13 straight but they have done so off of excellent goaltending, strong defense, and scoring throughout the lineup.

I'll update this when we have specifics on the contract.

Thanks for reading!
