This is no April Fools joke, Shane Wright will be making his first appearance in 2024 tonight against the San Jose Sharks. Wright appeared in three games earlier this season from the 9th to the 13th. He had only a single shot in those three games and averaged less than 10 minutes a game.
Now, the Seattle Kraken are all but eliminated from making the Stanley Cup playoffs. Now is the time to get a better look at some players and start to make decisions for the future. Wright will finally get a legitimate chance to play up in this roster and with some skill players.
Wright will centre a line tonight with Jaden Schwartz and Jordan Eberle, two legitimate top six forwards. Wright will be playing at least 17 minutes sin this game and get every opportunity to show this team and the fanbase what he can do. This is going to be a fun game to watch just to see how the kid handles it.
In 56 AHL games this season, Wright has 20 goals and 43 points, impressive stats for a 20 year old kid. Wright started this season as a 19 year old and while he was selected high and originally a potential first overall pick, fans need to still remember this is a kid. Not all players develop at the same rate and just because Wright hasn't been lighting it up in the NHL yet doesn't mean he won't at some point.
Let the kid make some mistakes tonight and play him heavily over these final games of the regular season. Beniers played in 10 games at the end of the 21-22 season and put up 9 points before having his breakout campaign in 22/23 with 57 points. These games will help the team to evaluate Wright and also help the player know what he needs to work on and improve in over the summer, going into next season.
Wright playing gives the fanbase something to cheer for and watch in these final games. Enjoy it!
