Who Am I? #2

Here we are! Back again for another brain racking edition of “Who Am I?”. Here’s how we play: You get 10 facts about an individual in the game of hockey, past or present. Can you identify the person on the basis of only this information? Bragging rights rule in this one, and as such you’ll hold more bragging power without running right to Google to try and figure it out! Post your answers in the comments, and I will post the answer prior to the next “mystery person” questions.

Before we get going, here’s last week’s answers:

1) Played for 4 NHL and 2 WHA teams.
(Rangers, Maple Leafs, Red Wings, Penguins, Vancouver Canucks & Blazers in WHA)

2) Was "involved" in the ushering in of the goalie mask.
(As a member of the Rangers in 1959 he took the shot that struck Jacques Plante in the face and led to him donning a mask)

3) Won his only Stanley Cup in 1959.
(With the Maple Leafs)

4) Coached one of the teams he played for.
(Vancouver Blazers of the WHA in 1974)

5) An off-ice eye injury limited his vision in his right eye to 20%.

6) Was part of a trade with one other player that saw Dick Duff, Bob Nevin, Rod Seiling, Arnie Brown & Bill Collins coming the other way.
(With Don McKenney in February 1964 to the Leafs from the Rangers)

7) Played for one of the original 1967 expansion teams during its innaugaral season.
(Pittsburgh Penguins)

8) Was a Hart Memorial Trophy winner.
(1959)

9) Was elected to the Hockey Hall of Fame.
(1978)

10) Along with Geoffrion & Hull, this player was one of the first consistent users of the slapshot, and was among the first to use a highly curved stick blade.

Who Is…..: Andy Bathgate!!!

Congrats to those who figured this out! Now for this week’s mystery hockey individual:

1) I was drafted out of college.

2) I was a Calder Trophy winner.

3) I won a Conn Smythe Trophy as well as the playoff MVP trophy for a sport other than hockey.

4) I played for five different NHL teams.

5) I won three Stanley Cups, each in a different decade and each for a different team.

6) I was a finalist for the Hobey Baker award.

7) Although retired as a player, I remain employed in the NHL.

8) I have a trophy named after me in a sport other than hockey.

9) I got my latest job after a former teammate was fired.

10) I had my college jersey retired on the same night as a Hall of Fame, Stanley Cup winning goaltender of an original six team did.

Best of luck folks!

Another favor I am asking of you folks! Myself and a friend have a collectibles site called Hockey Den (www.hockeyden.net) that has been nominated for an Upper Deck Social Media Award in the category of “Best Online Community”. We’re up against some heavy hitters and would appreciate the votes of anyone who has visited and enjoyed the site. While not looking to win, we are aiming to hit the Top 5 and get a feature on the Upper Deck site in an attempt to raise our profile in the community. In short, we would appreciate your votes! To vote, head over to the Upper Deck Vote Page and cast a vote for hockeyden.net! We appreciate any and all of your support!

Cheers!
