Welcome back for another of my attempts to stump you hockey experts with edition 37 of “Who Am I?”!!! Before I take another kick at the can here, let’s take a gander at the solution for edition 36:
1. I was born in Europe but never played there professionally. Or, depending on your perspective, I did at the end of my career...
Born in England, raised in Canada. Played two games for the Omskie Yastreby team in Omsk, Russia, in the Russia-3 league in 05-06. Many argue that Russia as a whole indentifies more as a European country societally and as such consider the entire region a part of that continent, yet technically the city of Omsk is in a region of Russia considered to be geographically part of the continent of Asia. Opinions abound, and I learned much more than I needed to about Eastern hemisphere geography!!!
2. My NHL debut is accurately described by the title of a solo song penned & performed by a member of the Eagles.
Don Henley's "New York Minute", representing my 60 seconds of relief work against the NY Rangers on November 11, 1992)
3. I won a single championship during my professional career.
1994 Calder Cup with the Portland Pirates
4. I was a second round pick in the NHL draft.
35th overall in 1989 by the Washington Capitals
5. In my career I played in a tandem with two goalies who made it to a Stanley Cup finals but never won.
Kelly Hrudey [LA] who lost in the 1993 finals [played with him in LA in 1995-96] and Olaf Kolzig [WAS] who lost in the 1998 finals [played with him in 93-94 & 94-95 with the Portland Pirates of the AHL]
Who Am I…………………..? I’m………………………….
Byron Dafoe!!!
Now onto my next attempt! I have to say, you folks are too good for me to trick, so my goals now are a matter of how long can I keep someone from getting the answer (if I go 30 minutes, I’m satisfied at this point!!!). Just to reinforce though, the goal of this is not just to identify the person, but also to tell me how the clues fit them. So you want to win the prize, you’ve got to give that info, just like Adam K. did for the edition 36 which won him a Jeremy Roenick rookie card. What will the prize be for edition 37? Not sure yet to be honest, but it’ll be half decent!
So enough wasting time! Here are the clues for this week. Send me the correct response (see my email address below) with the supporting info by midnight Saturday and you’ll be eligible for the draw! Here we go:
1. I played for three NHL teams, but played 10 times as many seasons for one team than I did the other two combined.
2. I wasn't drafted into the NHL.
3. I played for one Original Six team.
4. I was drafted during my NHL career.
5. I am the all time franchise leader in "statistic x" for one of the teams I played for.
Good luck folks! Hope you continue to enjoy your summer!
