The Avalanche signed their 2021 first-round pick forward Oskar Olausson to a three-year, entry-level contract on Friday. The 18-year-old was taken with the 28th overall pick in the first round of the NHL Entry Draft back in July.
Olausson played 16 games with HV71 of the Swedish Hockey League last season, scoring three goals and adding an assist. He also played for his home country in the 2021 IIHF tournament and won a bronze with Team Sweden in the 2019 Hlinka Gretzky Cup.
His best production came with the HV71 in J20 Nationell in 2020-21 when he scored 27 points (14g, 13a) in 16 games.
Here are his career numbers courtesy of Elite Prospects:
I don't know much more about him, but it's clear that Colorado believes they got their guy. The Avs really like the pace of Olausson's game. He's big, fast, and can shoot the puck. He fits the mold of typical Avalanche players.
"He's hard on the puck, takes pucks to the net, and we're excited for that skillset." - Joe Sakic
If you look at where he ranked on some of the draft experts' boards it seems like the Avs got a good value pick at 28.
