Should the Flyers be sellers?
There’s a big problem in the Eastern Conference right now when it comes to the trade deadline. Everyone is still in the playoff hunt and therefore no one is talking about becoming a seller this season and moving guys out. Making the playoffs is a top goal for every team. Sometimes, teams in the past have shown a willingness to sell, even while still in the playoff race. The St. Louis Blues come to mind as a team that used to do this quite a bit.
The Flyers are sitting on some pretty good assets.
Scott Laughton’s name comes up a lot, but the Flyers aren’t going to take anything less than a first-round pick as of now, and why should they really? They can afford to wait until closer to the deadline. Besides, Laughton is a big part of this team and maybe more valuable in Philly than anywhere else.
Another name that commonly comes up is Morgan Frost. Frost has skill, no question about it, and has people around the league that really like him. Some lperhaps like him more than Tortorella likes him.
Rasmus Ristolainen has gained some popularity around the league throughout the season. He is a steady, solid, defensive defenseman who loves to hit…. That’s a very valuable thing at the trade deadline every year.
A name that would have to take some creativity to move would be Sean Couturier. Sean‘s contract and no-movement clause would have to be overcome, but a true, solid center who’s won the Selke Award in the past could be the final piece on a Stanley Cup-contending team. And there are teams out there who have expressed interest in Couts. He is very well regarded around the league.
The market on March 7th is still very, very up in the air. The West has some definite sellers in it, but the East only has “possible” sellers right now.. The big buyers are also in the West as that conference is very competitive this year.
What should the Flyers be doing in your opinion?
