Continuing with the Flyers doppelgänger game

You might not have caught this last week when we did this. I started off with some of the Flyers players that are currently on the roster and searched for the player they reminded me the most of from the past. Several of you actually chimed in with better doppelgängers than I had for some players, so here’s who we have so far based on my picks and yours that were better.

Bobby Brink = Mark Read
Noah Cates= Murray Craven
Sean Couturier = Ron Sutter
Tyson Foerster= Scott Mellanby
Matvei Michkov= Mark Recchi
Morgan Frost=Patrick Sharp
Joel Farabee= Lindsey Carson
Ryan Poehling= Tommy Gorence
Scott Laughton= Craig MacTavish

Now for some new ones …

Jamie Drysdale = Shayne Gostisbehere
You can really see the potential in this kid. And like Shayne early on, it was a mixture of greatness and huge growing pains… the Flyers gave up on Ghost way too early… I’d like to see Drysdale stick around for a bit. And be allowed to grow.

Travis Sanheim= Eric Desjardins
I feel he’s one of the best defensemen the Flyers havehad in a long time. The best since Timonen for sure. Sanheim has absolutely learned how to engage on the offense, and with that will come some mistakes (see the Rangers game), but that’s OK. That’s why you need a solid two-way defensive partner to play with him to cover up.

Cam York= Brad McCrimmon
McCrimmon, RIP, was just ridiculously solid as a pairing with Mark Howe…way back when. He wasn’t as flashy, or as smooth as Howe was, but he allowed Mark Howe to be Mark Howe… through and through. Cam and Travis Sanheim are a lot alike. Cam has the potential to be a bit smoother in my opinion but is also still learning to engage in the same ways Travis does… therefore I don’t like Travis and Cam as a pairing. Too similar. But I like Cam York.

Garnet Hathaway = Paul Holmgren.
Great Attitude hard-nosed players with more offensive skill than they should have based on what you think their role is. Both guys knew that they had to stick up for their teammates, and both Garns and Homer score goals when you wouldn’t expect it. Holmgren had a 30-goal season. Hathaway has scored this season more as the season progresses.. Hathaway will and already had come in trade rumors because he is exactly what a lot of teams love to pick up for the playoff run.

Still to come….Owen Tippett, Travis Konecny, Rasmus Ristolainen, Nick Seeler, and the goalies of course…. So stay tuned for part three.

Of course, I am completely into you folks coming up with better doppelgängers than I have … so please in the comments let me know.
