Eklund on the Flyers. The back-to-back goalie selection process is awful. |

On the Flyers….
The Flyers have played a lot of games in a very few days, and last night was not surprising.
The Rangers are playing are hot right now and were definitely favorites…
However, I’m going to address a pet peeve I have and see if anyone else agrees.
Scenario: You have back-to-back games…
The first game is against the Rangers.
They are very hot and were considered a definite contender before the season began .
The second game against the Islanders.
They’re still struggling to a large degree and considered a team that you should be able to beat.
I know goalies no longer play back-to-back games (and that’s another story altogether that I would like to write)… but since the Flyers have one definite starter, and one definite backup, why hold the starter to play against the team you’re supposed to beat and get that win?
Why not playFedotov against the Rangers. They’ve never played against him, and they might find him difficult to play against. And you’re not supposed to beat the Rangers anyway, but you need to win the next game. You have to beat the Islanders and teams below you if you expect to make a run at the playoffs
And it’s not like this decision is made based on any of that. Around the NHL teams always play their best goalie in the first of the back and back. No matter who the opponent is . Don’t you need a better goalie on the second game when players might be getting tired as well ?
I would bet 100 bucks that if the Islanders were the first game and the Rangers were the second game, Ersson would have played against the Islanders because that is the way it’s done for some unknown reason.
It just doesn’t make sense to me. What do you think?
