The Benching of Cam York….and Why Call Up Kolosov? |

In general, I don’t question benching is because there is more going on behind the scenes…..
However, when benching a player who’s been playing very well, hurts the team as much as it did last night….I am 1000% against it…
John Tortella benched Cam York at around the 10 minute mark of the first period after York made a mistake on a goal by the Leafs. Given what we know and how well Sanheim and York have played together recently, I could see maybe giving him the rest the period off.
However, York never saw the ice again in the Flyers 7-2 loss in Toronto.
Many coaches will put a guy back out right away if he makes a mistake and give him a chance to actually make up for it. Torts doesn’t seem to play that game anymore. This may be one of the first moves where he went too far for management….
Kolosov call up.
Tons of questions last night why around the entire NHL as to why the Flyers useg their last call up on goalie Kolosov. Kolie the Goalie has been playing very well for the Phantoms lately as Lehigh Valley heads towards a playoff spot.
My first thought was, they might need three goalies if one of the current two would to get hurt.
But there is such a thing as an emergency call up, which they could’ve easily used if that scenario played itself out.
To me, knowing some of the people involved, this feels like the Flyers are going to use the last group of games here to see what they have in these three goalies…. How they play will likely determine a lot about their approach to the UFA period and the draft…
The only other reasoning here would be if they promised this kid something that they need to fulfill… but I don’t think that’s it….
What are your thoughts on the benching and Kolosov?
