Adversity
noun
difficulties; misfortune

We saw what happened in the first round to teams that didn't face much of it this season or at least down the stretch. One can argue that not all the divisions winners had a cake walk to the playoffs, but no one can argue that the Wild Card teams didn't get a huge helping of adversity just trying to make it into the playoffs.

The Good

Bobrovsky. Without Bob the first period score may have been 4-0 BOS. The goals that were scored on him were the results of turnovers and missed defensive coverage. When the score reached 2-1 Jackets, it looked like the type of a game that Bob was going to steal.

Bouncing Back

That first period was hard to watch, unless you are a fan of great goaltending while playing under siege. After that the game was played about even. The continue to battle despite being behind most of the game resulted in two 'playoff style' goals. Teams are so good and so discipline in the playoffs that more often than not the puck has to change direction to find the back of the net. CBJ found a way to do that in the 3rd period.

Bad Coverage

Seth Jones was out there for all 3 goals against. That is not to say that he was the cause of the all three. But it does give him the opportunity to learn from those CBJ miscues. He took responsibility for blown coverage on BOS second goal showing that he understands his role as a leader for the d-corp. His demeanor tells you he is ready to learn from what happened and get back out there an execute.

TURNOVERS

This game was sloppy. It looked like a game of Rusty Team v. Tired Team. Both teams turned the puck over but the CBJ did it at a much higher rate. And Bob bailed them out most of the time. Goal 1 for BOS was a direct result of a turnover on the PP. This will be a point of emphasis for Torts.

Quick Hits

Brandon Dubinsky got schooled in the face-off dot last night only winning 38%. Not good for a defensive-zone-face-off-specialist.

Savard was solid once again with 6 hits, 4 blocks and 24:29 of ice time. He was jumping up in the offense at the right times as well.

Werenski took a shot off the palm of his hand. He was seen on the bench applying ice after it happened, but didn't miss a shift. Hopefully it is nothing serious and won't impact his ability to grip the stick.

Both teams were 0/4 on the PP. The Bruins had 31 hits while the Jackets piled up 40 (and 19 blocked shots). Guys are sore this morning.

Series stays in BOS for a prime time game at 8 pm on Saturday. The hockey world will be curious how Columbus handles the adversity of trailing in the series.

Do the Jackets bounce back and steal home ice with a W in Game 2?

Everyone in Columbus glad we kept Bob at the deadline now? I know I am.
