A Scott Hannan Rumor?; Sharks vs Coyotes

Scott Hannan was mentioned as being of interest to another hockey team. I’m not even lying, that actually happened. You've probably heard about it already so I have only this to say about a potential Hannan deal to Pittsburgh:

Alaska Airlines Flight 4640 7am
US Airways Flight 4543 8:25am
American Airlines Flight 718 8:25am
United Airlines Flight 3501 8:36am
Delta Airlines Flight 6262 8:45am

Those are just the 5 that leave before 9am tomorrow morning. There are 35 other flights departing San Francisco for Pittsburgh tomorrow according to my Expedia search. I know they're in Arizona tonight, but I figured the least we could do was allow him to get some of his things first.

Sharks vs Coyotes

The Sharks are being handed a gift tonight; a full course coyote meal served up on the finest of fine china before they have to play Tampa, Nashville, Dallas, LA and Detroit.

Enjoy it. Don’t waste a single bite – because if you do, you’re going to go hungry.

The Coyotes, at .427, have the fourth worst point percentage in the entire NHL. The Sharks are in a dog fight with the Flames, Canucks, Stars, Kings and Wild for a playoff spot. There is importance to this game right now that can’t be overlooked.

I won’t even mention how leaving Kennedy out of the lineup over Scott or Desjardins is a bad idea.

San Jose needs to ice their optimal lineup tonight and compete for 60 minutes to ensure they get the win. Antti Niemi needs to make the routine saves. Without Vlasic and Braun the chances for the Coyotes are going to be there so making the simple saves has to happen. There’s no alternative.

Vancouver and Dallas are both in action tonight so there is potential for a position change in the standings as well as a gap being closed up a little tighter.

Other Thoughts:

Ok, I lied when I said I wouldn’t mention the Kennedy over Scott and Desjardins thing. Let’s compare HERO charts.

Tyler Kennedy

Andrew Desjardins

John Scott

What you’ll notice is that Kennedy is a solid depth player and that Desjardins and Scott are not. But you didn’t need the graph to tell you that, a simple eye-test would have sufficed. But who am I kidding, why would San Jose want a player that is a positive possession guy in the bottom six?

Moving on to more ‘other thoughts’.

That’s pretty good company for Couture.

Brent Burns has 42 points in 56 games – a PPG average that would sit him with 51 over 69 games, or three more than he had as a forward in the same time frame. They wanted him to replace Boyle and he’s done it. Boyle’s best offensive season as a Shark was in ’09-’10 when he averaged, you guessed it, the same as Burns this season. Can’t ask for much more, because everyone loved Boyle.

Nikolay Goldobin has two assists in his last two games for HIFK in the Finnish League. It’s hard to gauge his usage by the team given his TOI is so up and down on a game to game basis. The good news is he still, at least statistically, continues to be developing. It will be interesting to see him in pre-season action next year for San Jose.

That’s all for today, thanks for reading.
