The Martin Brodeur era in New Jersey looks to have concluded.
While Brodeur and Devils general manager Lou Lamoriello have been careful not to close the door on the possibility of Brodeur returning to backup Cory Schneider, it sounds as if Brodeur has ruled out that option.
TVA's Louis Jean says Brodeur is done as a Devil, and that he'll be suiting up for a new team come October.
As was rumoured days ago, there looks to be six interested teams in Brodeur's services.
Jean mentioned the regulars Pittsburgh, Chicago and Toronto were among the six, but also suggested Boston could be interested.
Jean went on to say that Brodeur's priority is to compete for a Stanley Cup, which likely makes Toronto the least attractive destination listed in that regard.
That said, Randy Carlyle tends to lean on his veterans so even with a superior goaltender in Jonathan Bernier already on the team, Brodeur would probably get a nice chunk of starts. He'd also be close to
Jeremy Brodeur, who will be playing with the OHL's Oshawa Generals this season.
It's somewhat surprising to see Brodeur drawing so much interest given his save percentage over the last two seasons is .901. I suppose teams consider his experience and leadership to be invaluable.
Nevertheless, Brodeur will not be playing for the Devils next season, and will never suit up for the team again.
After over 20 years with the organization, Brodeur appears to be done as a Devil.
