Five takeaways from what was Calgary's third consecutive preseason loss:
1) Mark Jankowski was not at his best last night as he struggled in possession and was eaten alive in the faceoff circle. Despite that, he still found a way to make an impact as he rifled home a Kris Versteeg pass from the slot, giving him his second preseason goal in as many games. I think he's making a pretty good case to be on the team.
2) The Ryan Lomberg - Dillon Dube - Tanner Glass line was surprisingly *really* good. They combined to score two of the Flames' three goals, they were physical (Glass led the way with four hits, including a couple big ones), they were the only positive line in possession, and that trio led the way in Game Score despite seeing the least amount of ice. It really felt like they were making things happen every time they were out there, which I certainly didn't see coming.
3) There were some hiccups throughout the game but I thought the Oliver Kylington - Rasmus Andersson pairing was pretty good. Kylington's skating was very noticeable at times and Andersson did a nice job of getting his shots through traffic. He had a couple on target and set Lomberg up with a very deflectable puck on his goal.
4) Goaltending wasn't why the Flames lost but it was somewhat underwhelming once again (posting an .851 save percentage vs an extremely watered down lineup is not exactly ideal). At least Jon Gillies blessed us with a save of the year candidate.
5) As is often the case in preseason, the power play was really sloppy and ineffective. That said, I think it's fair to expect better than 0-6 against a PK unit that was led in ice time by Wacey Hamilton, Carter Bancks, Andrey Pedan, and Guillaume Brisebois.
