The Golden Knights sent following players back to their respective teams today: Lucas Elvenes, Ben Jones, Paul Cotter, Pavel Dorofeyev, Maxim Marushev, Mason Primeau, Jermaine Loewen, Ben Thomson, Lynden McCallum, Daniel D’Amato, Kaedan Korczak, Zack Hayes, Derrick Pouliot, Dylan Ferguson, Jiri Patera, Ian McCoshen, Jonas Rondbjerg, Jake Leschyshyn, Jack Dugan, Daniil Miromanov, Brayden Pachal, Peter DiLiberatore. The big surprises out of this group are Daniil Miromanov who had three goals in the last two games.

The a Golden Knights played a staunch defensive game last night against the LA Kings and ended the preseason match with a 4-0 score. Here are a few thoughts:

Patches deployed with Patrick and Dadonov
This was an interesting line to watch. Patrick looks well on his way to a career recovery and was making some sharp passing plays. While the line was held off the scoresheet, the three players combined for nine shots.

The Kings lacked urgency
Perhaps the veteran core took the previous game’s result (3-1 Kings) personally, but the Kings were losing puck battles all over the place. In contrast, the Golden Knights brought patient urgency — pardon the paradox. Their first shot came nine minutes into the game, but it was a goal by Miromanov.

Getting the defensive system in order
For the first time this preseason, we got to see the Golden Knights play the defensive game they are known for. The middle was locked up and the trap was in full effect.

Miromanov looked sharp again
The now AHL player Daniil Miromanov scored what ended up being the game winning goal in the first period last night with a nice pinch to the front of the net. He later scored the Knights’ fourth goal by utilizing a give-and-go in the offensive zone followed by decking the puck around a few players as well as goalie Cal Petterson then dunking the puck into the net. He was credited with two shots, but really he had two goals and one shot on net. Despite his production, he wasn’t given any powerplay time and was sent down to the AHL earlier today. Daniil cited working on his defensive game upon being sent down.

Brossoit shined
Laurent Brossoit faced 38 shots last night and while most were from the perimeter — he also made some huge saves on the odd defensive breakdown the Knight’s gave up.

The Golden Knights have a few days off and will play again on Tuesday, Oct 5 against the Colorado Avalanche at 7pm Vegas time.
