Per Chris Johnston @reporterchris, the Calgary Flames have claimed Forward AJ Greer off of waivers from Boston. AJ, 26, was a fan favourite in Massachusetts. He brings a physical presence measuring in at 6’3”, 207lbs. He had five goals, 12 points, and 114 penalty minutes in 61 games with the Bruins last season. The big left winger also had eight fights including one in the preseason.
Speaking of preseason fights, here is him getting absolutely tooled by the hulking Ben Harpur.
They can’t all be pretty. Stu Grimson can sign that affidavit.
The native of Norte Dame des Prairies left his home province at 14 in favour of Kimball Union Academy, a prep school in New Hampshire. Another French-speaking player certainly won’t hurt to have around.
Anthony-John Greer will turn 27 in December, so Calgary is getting a fairly young player with only one full NHL season under his belt. He had short stints in Colorado and New Jersey before joining the Bruins in 2022.
Great news. His addition addresses a need for an enforcing presence and he has the skill to put a goal away here or there. If you want to read more about Calgary’s lack of physical deterrence, hop into Saturday’s piece for more background.
