Matthew Tkachuk has been signed and traded along with a conditional 4th round pick to the Florida Panthers for Jonathan Huberdeau, Cole Schwindt and a conditional 2025 first round pick. Tkachuk’s new contract is 8x9.5.
Huberdeau had 115 points last year, same amount as Johnny Gaudreau.
Weegar is a right shot defenceman, 28 years old and had 44 points last year. Eight goals and thirty six assists.
Both acquired players have one season before reaching UFA status. Huberdeau has a 5.9 million dollar cat hit and Weegar has a 3.25 cap hit.
Cole Schwindt played center in the AHL last year for the Charlotte Checkers. He had 19 goals and 40 points. He dressed for three games with the Panthers and recorded zero points. Sounds like a replacement for Glen Gawdin, who signed a two year deal with Anaheim. The second year of that deal is a one-way contract.
If you were Flames General Manager Brad Treliving, would you stop here? Kylington now finds himself fighting for a spot with Weegar. The futures acquired in the trade could also be used to insulate the lineup. Would you gauge the interest in sending Huberdeau to the Canadiens?
More to come.
