Earlier this morning, the Calgary Flames announced via Twitter that the organization and general manager Brad Treliving would be parting ways after nine seasons.

Don Maloney has been promoted to President of Hockey Operations and will serve as Interim General Manager. His previous role had been Senior VP of Hockey Operations which he had held since the 2017-18 season. Don worked his first General Manager position in 1992-93 after serving as an Assistant GM the season prior.

Per the team: The search for a new GM begins immediately. The position will be a tough sell for some. With a two-year, eight million and change contract kicking in next season, Maloney and Co. will need to find a list of candidates willing to be brought in without bringing in their own choice for head coach — a situation doomed to fail according to some.

This summer just got a lot more interesting. Stay tuned.
