The monster inside the man is mad. The frustration is becoming unglued publicly for netminder Elvis Merzlikins with the Columbus Blue Jackets after being the headline in the most recent game.
Monday afternoon, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day 2024, the Columbus Blue Jackets defeated the top team in the league in a shootout. Merzlikins in the victory earned his first win in the calendar year.
The $5M goaltender is under contract until 2027 unless bought out this summer by the organization.
Merzlikins, 29, is in his fifth NHL season after spending five years developing in the National League in Europe.
Merzlikins has seen 174 career starts in the regular season, and only two in playoffs. He has averaged a 0.906 save percentage with a below 0.500 winning record.
As reported in the past by the top sources and by me last week, it is seeming to be a three team race for the services of Elvis - Carolina, Edmonton, and New Jersey. The Oilers have the most unstable goaltending of the three, and have been scouting the Jackets for months.
