The fight of the season might have kicked off the game between Ryan Reaves and Mathieu Olivier to an epic heavyweight draw.
Elvis Merzlikins and Auston Matthews had an exchange of words after Elvis dropped his goalie stick and picked up Matthews’ stick; meanwhile, Matthews utilized Merzlikins’ goal stick before coincidental illegal stick minors were called.
A Zach Werenski minor penalty did not stop the Columbus penalty kill unit as Adam Fantilli opened the scoring short handed. The third overall pick’s 12th goal of the season was assisted by Ivan Provorov and Mathieu Olivier.

James van Riemsdyk extended the Columbus lead with his ninth with the Blue Jackets as Luca Del Bel Belluz and Kent Johnson have the helpers.

Per Pierre LeBrun of the Athletic, Columbus is it interested in trading rentals for mid round picks. The rentals are expected to be here to stay while the club remains in the thick of the playoff race.
