CBJ — Five Consecutive Losses — Reviewing the Back to Back (Stars/Flyers)

The Columbus Blue Jackets’ storybook 2022-2023 season continues to progress in the same negative way as it has since opening night. More losses continue to pile up, and they are now on their second fifth straight losing streak of the season.

Losses four and five came in the past two nights, including regulation losses to both the Dallas Stars and Philadelphia Flyers.

CBJ P31 — Dallas Does Late Damage

Elite youth reigns supreme as the Dallas Stars defeat the Columbus Blue Jackets by the final score of 2-1.

Forward Wyatt Johnston opened the scoring in the final minute of the second period with his 8th goal
of the season just 55 seconds in. Veterans Ryan Suter and Jamie Benn had the helpers.

Jason Robertson extended the league on an empty net for his 24th of the season.

With only 15 seconds remaining on the game clock, Kent Johnson closed the shutout for his 7th of the year. The backhander was assisted by Jack Roslovic and Gustav Nyquist.

Jason Robertson was my Stars’ player to watch, and he has the eventual game winning empty net goal that was his 24th goal of his year.

Kent Johnson was my Jackets’ player to watch, and he had the lone Columbus goal.

Jake Otteinger allowed 1 goal in 28 shots for a 0.965 save percentage; Danil Tarasov allowed one goal on 33 shots for a 0.970 save percentage.

CBJ P32 — Torts’ Mode

Travis Konecny led the Philadelphia Flyers past the Columbus Blue Jackets, in John Tortorella’s first win against his former team, by the final score of 5-3 at the Wells Fargo Arena in Philadelphia, PA.

Konecny opened the scoring by way of a short handed goal for his 13th of the season. Scott Laughton had the lone opening assist

Columbus came back with their only lead of the game with two second period goals.

Kirill Marchenko got his third of the season to even the scoring from Jake Christiansen and Eric Robinson.

Kent Johnson got his the go ahead just before the midway point of the middle frame with his 8th of the season; new linemates Johnny Gaudreau and Patrik Laine had the assists.

Morgan Frost got the Flyer’s tying goal for his 6th of the year; Cam York and JvR had the helpers.

Own Tippett got the go ahead goal for his 9th of the campaign. Joel Farabee and York had the apples.

Travis Konecny registered the eventual game winner for his 14th of the year and second of the game, Unassisted.

Andrew Peeke brought the Columbus lead back to one for the third time of the game for his third of the campaign late in the third period. Jack Roslovic and Gustav Nyquist had the final Columbus assists.

Owen Tippett’s second of the evening and 10th of the season was an unassisted empty net goal

Ivan Provorov was my Flyer’s player to watch, having 3 shots on net and 2 blocks in 19:17 TOI.

Carter Hart allowed 3 goals on 33 shots faced for a 0.909 save percentage.

Vladislav Gavrikov was my Blue Jackets’ player to watch , having a minor penalty, shot on goal, hit, and takeaway; a minus -2 rating; and 3 blocked shots in 21:27TOI.

Daniil Tarasov was in the crease again due to the illness of Elvis Merzlikins (COVID-related symptoms), allowing 4 goals on 38 shots for a 0.895 save percentage.
