To add to Merzlikins and Roslovic rumors with the whispers of Jenner and Boqvist, new reports are suggesting Laine and Provorov are now on the block. I’d expect first round picks back.

Blue Jackets beat the Flames in Werenski’s return sans Jiricek.

CBJ PG47 — Series Sweep

The Columbus Blue Jackets have swept a team in the season series!

The Calgary Flames lost to the Blue Jackets twice this season. The score of game number No. #47 last night at the Saddledome was the final score of 5-2.

This was the road team’s first regulation win of the calendar year.

Period I

With less than three minutes into the game, the road team opened the scoring from new top line winger Yegor Chinakov getting his 12th of the campaign. In his first game back from injury, Zach Werenski had the primary assist. Cole Sillinger had the secondary assist.

Panthers’ trade piece MacKenzie Weegar evened the game for the home team with his 12th of the season from Andrew Mangipanie and cup winner Blake Coleman.

Damon Severson got Columbus the answer for his sixth as a Blue Jacket unassisted.

Rookie Connor Zary closes the scoring for the home team with his 10th career goal. Linemate Matthew Coronato had the primary assist. Top defender Rasmus Andersson had the secondary assist.

Period II

Frenchman Alexandre Texier got the eventual game winning shorthanded goal for his seventh of the season. Ohio native Sean Kuraly had the primary assist. The former Flame Gudbranson had the secondary assist.

Period III

Rookie Dmitry Voronkov potted his 11th of the year from rookie Adam Fantilli and multipoint producer Severson.

Fantilli closed out the scoring for his 12th of the year from Yegor Chinakov on the empty net.

Players to Watch

Johnny Gaudreau got booed out of the building.

Elias Lindholm was pointless.

Goaltenders

Jacob Markstrom had 27 saves on 31 shots.

Daniil Tarasov had 28 saves on 30 shots.

CBJ THREE STARS OF THE GAME

1. Alexandre Texier

2. Damon Severson

3. Adam Fantilli

What’s Next ?

Canucks/Kraken back to back

The Columbus Blue Jackets complete the halfway mark of their road trip in the second and final game of the season series with the Vancouver Canucks. Puckdrop is at 10pm EST on Bally Sports Ohio.

The Canucks continue to rotate their stranglehold on the top of the league standings with Winnipeg and Boston. The All Star Six have cooled off since the first game as the scoring races have been begun to spread.

This is Vancouver’s first game since the overtime loss to the Blues on Wednesday, they are riding a 10 game point streak. They’re only two overtime losses were to the Blues on their last game and to Columbus in the shootout on MLK Day, when Elvis formally asked out of the organization.

Since then, Quinn Hughes has been named a co-captain with his brother Jack Hughes (NJD) and have celebrity coach Michael Buble.

The stars have driven their bus this season, and have aspirations at a cup. Demko has been healthy; JT Miller has been figured out by the Canucks’ coaching staff of Rich Toochett; Sergei Gonchar; and Columbus legend Adam Foote.

Former Buckeye Dakota Joshua has been great depth for the Canucks; and former deadline addition Ian Cole has been a great bottom pairing defender.

The band of former Penguins has brought the Canucks’ picks to new heights. Expect Demko and Elvis.

Columbus is keeping things the same despite them not working regularly. With a top team that plays well against the non-playoff teams, expect them to be shelled.

Players to Watch

Vancouver — Elias Pettersson — the best Swedish National since the Sedin twins in British Columbia. His future could be up in the air this summer as he is a pending RFA looking to make some dough. Chicago has been tossed in the rumor mill potentially wanting his services, but I would take that with a major pinch of salt. Same source said Nylander and Chicago and he stayed in Toronto.

Columbus — Dmitry Voronkov — the remixed version of the kid line has worked out. Despite losing Chinakov and gaining KJ, he is at double digit goals in his rookie year and first in North America. Has been fun the see him on this road trip.

Predicted Final Score

VAN - 7

CBJ - 2
