The Columbus Blue Jackets received an extended holiday break due to the devastating blizzard in Buffalo. Prayers to all involved and continuing to deal with the snowstorm.
With the vacation, this is their first game in six days where they do battle with the New York Islanders at the UBS Arena for their third straight road game.
Columbus has had a busy holiday, getting Cole Sillinger back in the lineup for the first time since December 17th with an undisclosed upper body injury.
They also have Emil Bemstrom up on an emergency basis due to the illness of Patrik Laine, could get worse in the room is the worry.
Jake Christiansen is back with Cleveland as Adam Boqvist is back and David Jiricek is at the World Junior Championship in Halifax and Moncton, along with fellow countrymen Stanislav Svozil and Martin Rysavy.
The Islanders are riding back to back home wins, recently defeating the Penguins 5-1 on Tuesday. Matthew Barzal remains tied at 7th in league assist scoring with Mitch Marner (Leafs), Adam Fox (Rangers), and Quinn Hughes (Canucks).
The Jackets are winless in their last 5 matchups with the Isles; additionally, they have not won a game against any team since December 11.
This is the last UBS Arena matchup for these teams until the 2023-2024 season.
In the current season series, the Islanders have outscored the Blue Jackets 7-5, with Columbus only earning one point of the available four.
