Trends continue to retain supreme for the Columbus Blue Jackets where the third period is the reason for their demise. This time, it was to the Tampa Bay Lightning by the final score of 4-1.
Tampa opened the scoring on home ice from Pierre-Edouard Bellemare. His first of the year was assisted by Nikita Kucherov and Victor Hedman.
Kirill Marchenko evened the game scoring in the second period with his second career NHL. His wrister was assisted by Cole Sillinger and Erik Gudbranson. This was the only Columbus goal in the contest.
Brayden Point got the game winning goal for his 16th of the campaign. Brandon Hagel and Kucherov got the helpers.
Brandon Hagel concluded the scoring for the game and Bolts with two late goals to get him to 10 on the season. His 9th came on from Kucherov and Hedman. His 10th, an empty net goal, was from Kucherov and former a Blue Jacket Ian Cole.
Daniil Tarasov allowed 3 goals on 28 shots for a 0.893 save percentage; Brian Elliott allowed 1 goal on 25 shots for a 0.960 save percentage.
Columbus cannot string any luck against the Eastern Conference, being 0-5-0 against opponents in the month of December, lastly defeating one on November 20th at home against Florida. Their only road win against an Eastern Conference team was the New York Rangers on October 23rd.
