The Columbus Blue Jackets suffered their first loss of the season to the hands of the Detroit Red Wings by the final score of 4-1 in MoTown at the Little Caesar's Place.
The first 40 minutes of the game were completely controlled by the goaltenders for Columbus and Detroit. Thomas Greiss and Jonas Korpisalo were undeniable last evening in the contest. It was a battle down to a mistake in the game.
The mistake came in the third, where all the scoring occurred in the game.
Captain Dylan Larkin pushed the offense with two primary assists, pushing the puck to rookie winger Lucas Raymond who sniped the puck over Korpi's shoulder for his first career goal.
The second goal for the Wings came 2:33 later, with the same trio pushing the play.
The only difference between goal one and two was instead of Larkin to Raymond, it was Raymond to Larkin to Tyler Bertuzzi for his fifth goal of the season.
Columbus' lone goal came late in the frame after smooth puck passing between wingers Patrik Laine and Jakub Voracek from the blue line, who found captain Boone Jenner in front of Greiss, and patiently led him down to the ice, and beat him up high for his second goal of the season.
The other two goals were empty net goals, scored in the final 95 seconds of the frame between ex-Bolts Vladislav Namestikov and Adam Erne.
Larkin got the best of his buddy Werenski, and between the battle of the rookie players to watch, Raymond ousted Chinakov. In Chinakov's defense, he was all over the game tape, and will be someone to watch going forward with the absences of Bemstrom, Domi, and Gerbe.
Thomas Greiss was 22 for 23 with a 0.957 save percentage; Jonas Korpisalo was 35 for 37 with a 0.953 save percentage.
