The Columbus Blue Jackets continue their preseason with a regulation win over the Washington Capitals, by the final score of 2-1.

Aleksi Protas opened the scoring minutes into the game snipping on past Elvis Merzlikins for the Capitals only goal of the game, and Protas’ first of the preseason. Anthony Mantha got the primary asssit; Erik Gustafsson had the secondary.

Minutes after the Capitals opened the scoring, Carson Meyer evened the game with his second of the preseason; Sean Kuraly and Mathieu Oliver had the assists.

Yegor Chinakov capitalized on the preseason opportunities given to him, by beating the Caps’ goaltender for his third of the preseason; Kuraly for his second assist, and David Jiricek got his first ever NHL point.

Charlie Lingdren stopped 18 of 20 shots faced for a 0.900 save percentage; Elvis Merzlikins stopped 34 of 35 shots for a 0.971 save percentage.

CBJ THREE STARS OF THE GAME

1. Yegor Chinakov — GWG (3)

2. Carson Meyer — goal (2)

3. Elvis Merzlikins — win, 97.1% save percentage

Prospect Lalonde Signed

The Columbus Blue Jackets have signed goaltender Nolan Lalonde to a three year entry level contract, and will be reporting to the Erie Otters of the OHL.

Lalonde is undrafted and was with Columbus during their prospect tournament in Traverse City. He’s had a few preseason appearances, and may get time in the ECHL or with Cleveland in the spring.

P6 Preview — @ Carolina Hurricanes Updated 11:25am

The Columbus Blue Jackets next preseason action is in Raleigh, North Carolina to battle with the Carolina Hurricanes, who are my pick to win the Stanley Cup.

Carolina added Brent Burns with salary retained for cheap; Max Pacciorretty and Dylan Coghlan from Vegas for future considerations; and cheap free agent signings including Paul Stastny, Calvin De Haan, Ondrej Kase, and Ryan Dzingel.

Their biggest loss was Vincent Throchek; but they also lost Tony DeAngelo; Josh Levio; Max Domi; Ian Cole; Brendan Smith; and Nino Niederreiter.

In tonight’s game, it is the first time Cole Sillinger will be playing due to a training camp injury.
