No words for this result. Let’s get through this one. After saying everything and recapping it all, the Arizona Coyotes embarrass the Columbus Blue Jackets by the final score of 6-3.
Arizona had 5 unanswered goals. Shayne Gostisbehere had 2; Zach Kassian got his first as a Coyote; and both Dylan Guenther and Jack McBain got their second career goals.
Columbus came back with 2 goals. Johnny Gaudreau got his 5th of the season; Zach Werenski and Jake Bean got the helpers. Kent Johnson got his third goal in his third straight game; Gustav Nyquist and Cole Sillinger got the assists.
Lawson Crouse got an empty net goal to make it 6-2.
With nine seconds left in the game, defenseman Andrew Peeke got his second goal in his second consecutive game; Sean Kuraly and Bean got the apples on the final goal of the game.
Daniil Tarasov was the starting the goaltender, and got yanked after allowing 4 goals on 12 shots. Elvis allowed one goal on 6 shots. Cole Sillinger was my player to watch, and he finally got his first point of the season, granted, it was a secondary assist on the KJ goal. The changing of the lines was a spark that worked in the third.
Connor Ingram had 30 saves on 33 shots for a 0.909 save percentage. Dylan Guenther was my Arizona player to watch and got his second career goal, having 3 shots in 11:55TOI.
CBJ THREE STARS OF THE GAME
1. Johnny Gaudreau — goal (5), E, 4SOG, 3TKA, 22:53TOI
2. Kent Johnson — goal (3), E, 1SOG, 13:00TOI
3. Jake Bean — 2 assists (3), +1, 2 PIM, 2SOG, 16:40TOI
This effort was abysmal in front of Tarasov and Elvis. Yes the team is young and there is no Korpisalo, but this is the same defense as last season and it got worse from the summer to now. It isn’t good enough. The scoring is dry. The defense is sloppy. The pucks are going in. Everything just has to be better. Losing to a team that is tanking and has the kids they have up, it is going to leave a sour taste until they play in the desert and at the new arena in Arizona State.
More to come.
