The Columbus Blue Jackets were blanked by the New York Rangers. The final score was 4-0 for the Blue Shirts on Broadway, leading to Elvis Merzlikins’ first loss of the season.
Ryan Strome opened the scoring with his first of the campaign off a beautiful feed from former Blue Jackets’ winger and player to watch, Artemi Panarin. The Bread man went end to end with the puck, leading the Jackets’ defenders toward him and freeing Strome, who glided through the middle of the offensive end and dished it past Merzlikins. Nils Lundkvist had the secondary asssit.
Moments later, sophomore Alexis Lafereniere tapped it a wrap around pass from Norris winner Adam Fox, who buried the Jackets’ defense with his skating all around Merzlikins’ backside. It was the former number one overall selection’s third goal of the campaign.
The final two goals were power play goals that came from Chris Kreider, earning his 5th and 6th goals of the season. Both Fox and Panarin had the assists on both goals.
Panarin was my player to watch for the Rangers, and he did not disappoint, registering 3 assists on the night. He was only a +1 and registered 2 shots with 21 minutes of ice time.
Max Domi was my player to watch for Columbus, and after an energetic first half, he was quiet on the scoreboard. Domi was a -1 with a minor and shot registered. He also had 2 take away in 13:52 ice time.
Igor Shesterkin stopped all 31 shots, where Merzlikins stopped 33 of 37 for a 0.892 save percentage.

I wish there was more better news to report out of Columbus, but there’s tomorrow against the Devils.
Check out my Twitter as I was at the Cleveland Monsters vs Hershey Bears game in Hershey, PA for my live recap @ZakMacBuzz. Did get to meet some of the Mosnters players and did an intermission podcast with @KrakenKorner on Instagram.
