The Dallas Stars third line was all the difference in their 5 unanswered goals for a 5-2 victory over the Columbus Blue Jackets on ESPN+ and Hulu.
Period I
Both of the Blue Jackets’ goals came in the first 8:43 of the game. They were within 7:35 of each other from the first minute to before the first half of the first period.
Captain Boone Jenner opened the scoring to continue his team leading seventh goal of the campaign. Linemates Johnny Gaudreau and Jack Roslovic got the helpers.
Kirill Marchenko concluded the Union Blue scoring with his third goal of the year - his third in his last 4 games. Rookie linemates Adam Fantilli and Dmitry Vokornov had the apples.
Mason Marchment replied 30 seconds later to start the Dallas goal scoring for his third of the season. The third line has the assists - Matt Duchene and Tyler Seguin.
Period II
Craig Smith delivered the game tying goal for his second of the year. Radek Faksa had his first assist of the campaign. Esa Lindell had the secondary assist.
Matt Duchene recoded the game winning goal for his third of the season; second against Columbus this season. Nils Lundkvist had the lone helper.
Period III
Tyler Seguin added to the Stars’ lead with his second of the year from Lundkvist and Duchene.
Jason Robertson got the empty net goal for his third of the campaign from Joe Pavelski.
Miro Heskianen was my Stars’ player to watch, being pointless and even; however, he had 4 shots on goal and 3 blocked in 24:29TOI.
Jake Otteinger was in the crease for the Dallas stopping 29 of 31 shots faced for a 0.929 save percentage.
My Columbus player to watch — Alexandre Texier was a -1 with a shot in goal in 17:53 — after getting his first two points of the season, maybe see what Bemstrom is like and Texier goes to the press box. Too much ice time for someone who has only produced in one game of 13 this season. Shocking.
Spencer Martin allowed 4 goals on 30 shots against for a 0.867 save percentage. This was his worst game since his debut against Detroit. He will rebound. Maybe give Elvis one game this weekend and him the other.
CBJ THREE STARS OF THE GAME
1. Boone Jenner - goal (7)
2. Kirill Marchenko - goal (3), +1
3. Dmitry Vokornov - assist (3), +1, minor
Back to back games this weekend, this will just be pregame banter with post game results on Monday. Gaudreau for Huberdeau not going to happen. There aren’t enough pieces and cap savings. Gaudreau wants his family. He has it. X trolls got me laughing, but no chance he goes back to Calgary. $10.5M is too big a contract for the Jackets.
