The Columbus Blue Jackets fail to complete the comeback with a 5-4 regulation loss after a final minute goal from the Detroit Red Wings.
Period I
James van Riemsdyk opened the scoring off a Detroit too many men penalty. The Sillinger shot tipped off van Riemsdyk’s twig for his fifth Columbus career goal. Ivan Provorov had the secondary assist. This was the first goal in 2025 for Columbus.
Patrick Kane tied the game with his eighth goal of the year with the helpers belonging to Andrew Copp and Alex DeBricant.
Erik Gustafsson had his first goal with the Red Wings with Justin Holl having the apple off the slapper.
DeBrincant capitalized on the Kuraly tripping minor for his 16th of the campaign. Moritz Seider and captain Dylan Larkin recorded the assists.
Period II
Zach Werenski had an unassisted goal midway through the frame for his 12th this year.
Sean Monahan brought the game back to even with his 14th goal with the Blue Jackets with less than 90 seconds remaining. JvR and Werenski had the assists.
Period III
Larkin regained the Wings’ lead off the Voronkov hooking penalty for his 14th goal this season. Former Blackhawks DeBrincat and Kane got the apples.
JvR potted in the final goal for the home team with two and a half minutes remaining to record his first multi-goal game with the Blue Jackets. This was his first multi-goal game since February 17 (51 games). Former Wolverines Adam Fantilli and Werenski had the final assists.
Jonathan Berggren registered the winning goal with 36 seconds remaining in regulation to push the Red Wings’ red streak to three for his sixth of the campaign. Motte notched his first assist with Detroit. Ben Chariot had the secondary helper.

Cam Talbot allowed four goals on 25 shots against for an 0.840 save percentage.
Elvis Merzlikins had 21 saves on 26 shots against for an 0.808 save percentage.
