CBJ PG76 — Race Continues

The New York Islanders continue their race to the playoffs over the final stretch of the season. The Isles defeat the Blue Jackets by the final score of 4-2. This means the Isles sweep the Blue Jackets in the season series for the 23-24 regular season.

Period I

Pierre Envgvall opened the scoring for the road the team with his ninth of the season on the powerplay. The assists for the first goal of the night went to Ryan Pulock and Kyle Palmieri.

Rookie Dmitry Voronkov evened the game at one a piece on the Blue Jackets’ one and only powerplay of the night. His 18th career goal had the helpers credited to Kirill Marchenko and Alexandre Texier.

Bo Horvat earned his 32nd of the season with the assists going to Matt Barzal and Alex Romanov, my Isles’ player to watch.

Kirill Marchenko tied his career high for goals in a season with 21 to even the game at two all. His shot came from behind the net and off the Isles’ goalie’s mask and in the net in a highlight reel goal late in the frame. The head knocked was assisted by Zach Werenski and Cole Sillinger.

Period II

Jake Bean got a holding penalty. 20 shots on goal. Jet Greaves stopped all 14 Islanders’ shots faced.

Period III

Noah Dobson snags the game winning goal early in the third period for his ninth of the campaign with the helpers going to Barzal and Romanov.

Jake Bean leaves game with upper body injury. It has been revealed since it is a broken hand and he will miss the final games of the year.

Palmieri gets the empty net goal with 38 seconds left in the game for his 25th of the season.

Players to Watch

Alexander Romanov had two assists on the evening, continuing to be the team leader in the plus department for his squad.

Dmitry Voronkov got his 18th career goal on the only powerplay attempt the home team had in the evening.

Goaltenders

Ilya Sorokin stopped 25 out of 27 shots for a 0.926 save percentage.

Bert Kreischer is at the NWA for his stand up tour.

Jake Bean is out for the season. Reinforcements are coming up.

Zach Werenski has earned the Bill Masterton Trophy vote for the Blue Jackets. Smart choice. Strong rebound year after only playing 8 games last season.
