CBJ SIGN A TRIO OF PLAYERS

The Columbus Blue Jackets made some buzz this morning with the additions of two players to new contracts.

The first is the addition of winger Zac Rinaldo to a one year, league minimum contract. The cap hit is $750K. The former Philadelphia Flyers’ draft pick has become a journeyman around the league. Rinaldo has suited up for Boston; Arizona; Nashville; and Calgary in his tenure. The enforcer has played with Domi in Arizona, and Voracek in Philadelphia. My full expectation is for him to be a fourth line center or winger, to have grit on the roster to duel with the aggressive players moving into the Metropolitan Division throughout the summer.

The first prospect of the 2021 NHL Entry Draft has also signed with Columbus, and that is Czech fender Stanislav Svozil. The third round pick has spent time with his country in both the World and World Junior Championship tournaments this year, competing against players and professionals this year.

From the rankings and projections, he’s a steal for Columbus in this draft, and expect him to make the NHL in the coming years along with Kent Johnson; Cole Sillinger; and Carson Ceulemans.

The most recent signing from this past weekend was defenseman Ole Julian Bjorgvik-Holm to his three year entry level contract. The 2020 draft selection split last season in Norway and the Cleveland Monsters; with his home country’s league and junior developmental programs. The fifth round selection from the 2020 draft has already played against men, and only just turned 19.

Thoughts on the moves?
