The Columbus Blue Jackets have extended right winger Carson Meyer to a one year two way contract worth $775K against the salary cap for the duration of the 2023-2024 season.

As per my profile last month

Player Profile - Carson Meyer

Carson Meyer is a 25 year old right winger from Powell, Ohio. Meyer will be 26 come the beginning of the 23-24 season if he remains signed. He is a pending RFA.

Meyer stuck with Ohio AAA development hockey until the USHL came calling, taking him to the Tri-City Storm.

The central Ohio foward also split time in college between the Univeristy of Miami of Ohio and the Ohio State University.

The winger was selected in the sixth round of the 2017 NHL Entry Draft as an overeager, being taken 179th overall.

He has played mainly with Cleveland, but due to injuries on the main roster, he has suited up in 27 career games for Columbus. Carson Meyer has one goal and three assists.

Expect a league Min or AHL exclusive deal.

The deal is done. What’s next?

Player Profile - Michael Pyyhita

Next on the board is another youngster on the Monsters, in Mr. Pyyhita.

The 2020 fourth round draft pick just concluded his first season of his entry level deal with the Blue Jackets. He was selected 114th overall out of the Finnish League.

The Turku, Finland native stands at just 5’ 11”, having him be a small forward mainly in the center position. He is only 21, and is building on his strength.

He was developed with TPS in LIGA as a junior, being near the top of the charts against his age range. Against the adults, he slide into the bottom sox, and got bottom six numbers.

Pyyhita split this season between Finland and the AHL/NHL. He put up 7 goals and 13 assists for 20 points in 47 games with TPS. He recorded 3 assists in 7 games with Cleveland. To put the icing on the cake, he had an assist in his first two career NHL games with the Blue Jackets at the end of the season.

His potential ranges on this team as there is a pool of young forwards coming behind him, where he could be a top six forward in the AHL or a bottom six forward in the NHL.
