The Columbus Blue Jackets have announced that three of the assistant coaches will not be returning to the organization for the 2024-2025 regular season.

Mark Recchi

Recchi served as an assistant under Pascal Vincent for one season, 2023-2024. His main focus was the offense and powerplay. Recchi joined the team on a two year deal last September, during training camp. The Jackets finished worst in the Eastern Conference.

Derek Dorsett

Dorsett, the former Blue Jackets’ enforcer, is stepping away as the team’s developmental coach after joining the Monsters’ in 2021-2022. His reason is not due to the change of Evason, but due to being a new father.

Josef Boumedienne

Boumedienne was informed after the season that his expiring contract would not be renewed, president and GM Don Waddell told The Athletic last month. He has been with the Jackets as a scout since 2014; as a coach for only this last season.

Jared Boll and Steve McCarthy are both deemed safe. Evason can now fill the cupboard.

Mike Haviland

Haviland, 57, is roughly 30 minutes from my hometown in Middletown Township, NJ. The former Colorado College head coach also served as a head coach in Hershey and an assistant for the Hawks’ first Cup win in 2010. Haviland joined the Monsters’ coaching staff under Trent Vogelhuber in 2022-23. Last season, the Monsters lost in Game 7 of the Eastern Conference finals. Great internal move.

One vacancy remains, expected to be announced in the next week or two.
