The Columbus Blue Jackets saw the 2022 NHL Trade Deadline come and go, with the completion of the only third party broker deal of the season. This transaction came after the 3pm deadline due to the call que from Central Registery at the NHL head offices.
Columbus was joined by the Florida Panthers and Carolina Hurricanes at the table to facilitate the trade. All three teams involved acquired an unsigned player each, while Florida obtained the only draft pick; and Carolina got the prize rental in the move.
Max Domi is the prize of the Blue Jackets, and had 50% of his salary retained by the Blue Jackets, with 25% being held by the Panthers. Carolina has his services for the remainder of the year, at the 25% salary hit on their books until he becomes an unrestricted free agent.
Tyler Inamoto is a fifth year defensive prospect, that was moved from Florida to Carolina in the deal, making him the prospect Carolina got.
Egor Koreshkov is the unsigned KHL roster player that Florida got from Carolina in the move, making his rights now with Florida, joining former Toronto Maple Leafs including Carter Verhaeghe and Mason Marchment.
For holding onto 25%, Florida also got a 2022 6th round pick from Toronto via Columbus. This was the pick Columbus got from the Leafs at the 2022 NHL Trade Deadline for F Riley Nash.
Adian Hreschuk is the prospect the Columbus Blue Jackets got from the Carolina Hurricanes. Hreschuk is a sophomore at Boston College, and was drafted 94th overall in the 2021 NHL Entry Draft. Columbus has another season or so to sign him to an NHL contract before he becomes an unrestricted free agent. This also expands the Josh Anderson trade tree, with him now with the Habs, and the Jackets having 2 defensive prospects in Hreschuk and Samuel Knazko.
To summarize in a list view:
To Carolina— F Max Domi, D Tyler Inamoto
To Florida— F Egor Koreshkov, 2022 6th Round Pick (form TOR), 25% Domi’s salary
To Columbus— D Aidan Hreschuk, 50% of Domi’s salary retained
With this being their only move, there were other form Columbus players moved as well.
F Derrick Brassard, the former first round pick of the Jackets, has joined the Edmonton Oilers in a trade that sent a 4th rounder in 2023 to Philly. Brassard is now on his 10th team, the most of an active NHLer.
F Riley Nash returned to Tampa in a trade that sent the Arizona Coyotes future considerations.
D John Moore was flipped with picks and prospects to Anaheim for D Hampus Lindholm, who went on to sign an 8-year extension with the Bruins. Moore was then flipped to Vegas with Ryan Kesler’s contact for Evgeni Dadanov and a 2024 2nd; however, that trade has been blocked at this time by the NHL due to Dadanov’s modified no trade clause.
On the House:
There was a bot deal out there yesterday that had the Vancouver Canucks acquiring Jack Roslovic from Columbus, but notice how bot was in the deal. It was a fake trade, and never happened. It is always important to read the text and the senders of messages or tweets.
Joonas Korpisalo remains with the club, and is currently their starter with Elvis Merzlikins injured.
After speculation of Kukan and Stenlund with Edmonton, both are still in Columbus.
As much as the media loved the rumors of Laine and Roslovic moving, even with the speculation late from sources on Gavrikov and Nyquist, they all remain.
Columbus got out of the deadline with a younger defensive group, and a younger offensive group. They’re staying the course, and that may be the best bet.
Additionally, congratulations to Kent Johnson and the Univeristy he plays for for win the NCAA Big Ten Championship!
And a big congratulations to the Ohio State Women’s Hockey team for being NATIONAL CHAMPIONS! This program has been continuing to blossom, and they deserve so much more attention, recognition, and praise than they get. It’s one of the strongest systems in the women’s hockey world, and they have got to keep this going at the university and help them continue this success.
As for tonight, the Jackets return to the ice to do battle with the Pittsburgh Penguins at PPG Paints Arena at 7pm, and the Pens went big fishing.
Ron Hextall, Brian Burke, and Mario Lemieux obtained F Richard Rakkell from the Mighty Ducks of Anahiem in a trade that sent forwards Zach Aston-Resse and Dominik Simon; goalie Kale Clarge, and a 2022 2nd round pick. This adds so much more fire power to the Penguins, with Malkin, Crosby, Carter, and Guentzel all scoring on the offense. This feels like the last dance and chance for them to win the cup. They also acquired defenseman Nathan Beaulieu from the Winnipeg Jets for a conditional 7th in the upcoming draft.
Tonight, we see the Jackets play their first game without Domi on the roster since the 2020
NHL Draft, when he joined the team for Josh Anderson. We also see Korpisalo in with the injury to Merzlikins.

Players to Watch
Pittsburgh— Rickard Rakell— the new guy had 28 points in 51 games played with the Mighty Ducks, and is a pending UFA. This is his best chance in his prime to make the run with Sid and Geno. Of the 28 points, 16 are goals. He knows how to finish.
Columbus— Oliver Bjorkstrand — 8 points in his last 5 games, the guy has been on a role. Bjorky and Laine are tied with 48 points on the season.
