OTT — Former Sen Helps Sens; Senators Edge Devils

Former Senators’ first round draft selection, Stefan Nosen, the prospect piece in the Bobby Ryan deal, cost the New Jersey Devils points as the Ottawa Senators hold onto a three goal second period for a 3-2 regulation win to secure the first place wild card playoff spot in the Eastern Conference.

Period I

Shane Pinto assessed two minute minor for tripping on Timo Meier. Nico Hischer tripped Thomas Chabot. Jonathan Kovacevic shot the puck over the glass for a two minute delay of game minor. Ottawa outshot New Jersey 7-6. No score through 20.

Period II

The road Senators has two goals in 33 seconds to get up on the home Devils.

Four minutes and five seconds into the frame, Captain Brady Tkachuk tipped a Jake Sanderson past Jake Allen for his 28th of the season; Tim Stützle had the secondary assist.

At four minutes and 38 seconds, Drake Batherson tipped a Dylan Cozens shot for his 20th of the campaign; Travis Hamonic had the secondary helper.

Home team captain Nico Hischer capitalized Sens’ captain Brady Tkachuk’s infraction on the powerplay for his 30th of the regular season. Jesper Bratt and Luke Hughes had the apples.

Stefan Nosen tripped up Tyler Kleven; David Perron potted the game winner on the powerplay. The veteran winger’s sixth goal with the Senators was supported by Claude Giroux and Ridly Greig.

Period III

Erik Haula brought the Devils to within one with 24 seconds left for his eighth of the year from Hughes and Cody Glass.

Players to Watch

Fabian Zetterlund was a +1 with 14:47TOI and 2 shots on goal and hit.

Stefan Nosen was a -1 with a tripping minor. He had two giveaways and shots; one hit; and 17:01TOI. His mistake cost his team points and they are now one point ahead of Ottawa in the overall standings.

Goaltending

Linus Ullmark had 25 saves on 27 shots for a 0.926 save percentage.

Jake Allen had 16 saves on 19 shots for a 0.842 save percentage.
