The Ottawa Senators could not defend the one goal lead as the Red Wings comeback to win their fifth consecutive game. Ottawa does earn one point from the 3-2 overtime loss.
This concludes the Senators’ nine game road trip from Dec. 17 through Jan. 7, where they finish 4-4-1 and return home without their starting goaltender.
Period I
Dylan Larkin and his led Wings’ team opened the scoring in their building on the powerplay. The Brady Tkachuk roughing/removal of Simon Edvinsson’s bucket resulted in the man advantage. Larkin’s 17th goal of the regular season was assisted by former Sen Alex DeBrincat and Lucas Raymond.
Period II
Thomas Chabot slapped the puck to the back of the net to even the game at one a piece for his third of the campaign with the assists going to Nick Jensen and Nick Cousins.
Brady Tkachuk got the Sens’ the lead on the powerplay in the final minute of the frame. The captain capitalized on the Justin Holl minor for his 18th of the regular season from Jake Sanderson and Tim Stützle, my Senators’ player to watch.
Period III
Joe Veleno got the tying goal at the quarter mark of the final period for his fifth of the year. Simon Edvinsson and former Senators’ deadline pickup Tyler Motte had the helper.
Overtime
Patrick Kane snapped one past the Senators on the powerplay from Sanderson’s hook on Moritz Seider for his ninth of the year from Larkin.
Players to Watch 🇩🇪
Detroit — Moritz Seider had one giveaway, two hits, three shots on goal, and four blocked shots with his team leading 25:43TOI. He also drew the hooking minor on Sanderson in the overtime, which led to the eventual winner.
Ottawa — Tim Stützle had the secondary assist on the Captain Brady Tkachuk go ahead goal in the final minute of the second period for his 29th helper of the season and 185th of his career. Stutzle also led all forwards in ice time in 20:04
Goaltenders
Cam Talbot had 21 saves on 23 shots faced for a 0.913 save percentage; Alex Lyon saved all 10 shots faced.
Anton Forsberg saved 30 on 33 shots faced for a 0.909 save percentage.
