The losing woes continue to curse the Ottawa Senators as they currently sit on a four game losing streak after the four-zip shutout from the Buffalo Sabres. With this loss, the team is now three points outside the second and final wild card playoff spot currently held by the Columbus Blue Jackets.

Jack Quinn scored two first period goals to lead him to 7 goals on the season. Zach Benson and Peyton Krebs each had an assist.

Dylan Cozens, the heavily rumored trade bait, had the third Sabres’ goal.

Ryan McLeod shined with two assists on both of Quinn’s goals and his own second period goal.

Ukko-Pekka Lukkonnen stopped all 35 Senators’ shots.

Anton Forsberg allowed all four goals on 21 shots against for an 0.810 save percentage.

Thomas Chabot, who was on the ice for all four goals, reacted to the media with this quote:

Nobody can hide behind anything. It’s just from top to bottom, the whole team, just not good enough.

Things have not been going great in Ottawa since the injury to Linus Ullmark in Vancouver. Anton Forsberg missed the beginning of December with injuries, and has not ran with the starting goaltender position with the roster in front of him.

Only one win in their last seven games, and that was against the Wild; and with six upcoming in the next eight days, there is no rest coming for the Senators as they are beginning to look up the standings instead of down at the others.

Ridly Greig at the Right Price

The Ottawa Senators extended forward Ridly Greig to a four year contract extension worth $13M for an average annual salary of $3.25M beginning in the 2025-2026 season.

Greig, 22, was a first round draft pick of the Senators in the 2020 draft, 28th overall. Greig has six goals and six assists for 12 points in 37 games this season with the only team he has played for professionally.

With plenty of upside and grit, the young forward will continue to challenge in the middle six on the Senators going forward toward his unrestricted free agency years.

Thoughts on the extension? More to come…
