The Ottawa Senators continue to hold the third spot in the Atlantic Division as they defeat the struggling Nashville Predators by the final score of 5-2 for their fifth straight win.

Ottawa took a too many men bench minor; Predators took two minors on Sens’ players. Even 8 shots a piece and no scoring.

Period II

The home team opened the scoring early in the period as winger Filip Forsberg had his 19th of the campaign. Roman Josi and Vinnie Hinostroza had the assists.

Ottawa scored two goals in 3:04 to get the lead after 40.

Adam Gaudette lit the lamp to even the game at one. His 16th goal of the season was assisted by Tim Stützle and David Perron.

Jake Sanderson had the go ahead goal for his fifth of the year from Matthew Highmore and Artem Zub.

Period III

Jonathan Marchessault brought the home team back to even off a Travis Hamonic infraction. His 16th with the Predators was supported by Ryan O’Reilly and Forsberg.

Shane Pinto got the game winner for the Senators for his 11th of the regular season with Gaudette and Thomas Chabot earning the helpers.

David Perron got his much deserved first goal with the Senators. His powerplay goal 311th of his career. The Zachary L’Heureux minor on Greig was the cause of the powerplay. Gaudette and Thomas Chabot had the assists.

Ridly Greig scored on the empty net for his ninth of the season from Brady Tkachuk and Claude Giroux.

Goaltenders

Jusse Saros allowed 4 goals on 38 shots for a 0.895 save percentage.

Anton Forsberg had 25 saves on 27 shots for a 0.896 save percentage.

Sens’ Three Stars of the Game

1. Adam Gaudette — goal (16), assist (6)
2. Shane Pinto — GWG (11)
3. David Perron — first goal as Sen; assist (2)

Next Game

Bolts tonight in a massive battle for playoff positioning. Tampa and Ottawa play tonight and Thursday. Linus Ullmark is back and is tonight against Vaslievsky; Tampa demoted Connor Geekie and signed goalie Brandon Halverson as Jonas Johassson is injured. Senators eyeing sixth straight win.

Other Notes

Pettersson is off the block in Vancouver; but the Canucks are still interested in Norris for their center depth. Canucks think they still have a fighting chance in the postseason as they fight Calgary.

Ryan Hartman gets 10 on Stützle incident; good riddance.

Sens reportedly interested in Mario Ferraro; Ryan Donato; and Brandon Tanev. Pre-deadline is wrapping out soon; trade deadline is March 7. It will be interesting to see if Staios awards his club for their efforts, and keeps things steady. They did not panic before when they struggled in the fall.
