According to Sportsnet’s Nick Alberga, there is confirmed legitimate interest between the Columbus Blue Jackets and current Chicago Blackhawks’ winger Patrick Kane.

Kane is in the final year of a contract worth $10.5M on the cap, and could be moved out of Chicago before the regular season begins. The three time cup winner is considered one of the top American born forwards of all time, while still being an active player.

Columbus joins a reported list including the New York Rangers, Colorado Avalanche, Toronto Maple Leafs, Edmonton Oilers, Buffalo Sabres, Los Angeles Kings, Calgary Flames, and Dallas Stars.

This afternoon, I was also featured on Eklund’s blog with my trade proposal:

Alexandre Texier

For

Kane (50% salary retained)

Chicago needs bodies, and 3 young forward bodies with NHL experience won’t hurt the Hawks, where the CBJ can have a unit of Gaudreau—Jenner—Kane—Laine—Werenski on PP1

This was before Texier’s departure to Switzerland, but would most benefit the playing time to the three forwards that would go to Chicago, and the Hawks recoup the first round pick they dealt to Columbus, whether it be in 2023 or 2024. The cap retention for Kane to Gus Nyquist would be near even, saving the Jackets about $1M for the season per CapFriendly. It would also give a Columbus roster two legitimate American forwards, plus elite goal scoring:

Gaudreau—Jenner—Kane
Voracek—Roslovic—Laine
Chinakov—Sillinger—Marchenko
Robinson—Kuraly—Danforth

What are your thoughts on Patrick Kane in Columbus? More to come…
