Sens' Smashed by Avs; Cozens Stays Red Hot

The Ottawa Senators allowed five unanswered goals before breaking the shutout late in regulation, for a 5-1 loss to the Colorado Avalanche.

Period I

The visiting Avalanche scored four goals in seven minutes exactly to force coach Travis Green to yank starting goaltender Linus Ullmark to swap in Anton Forsberg.

Forward Nathan MacKinnon continued his Hart-esk season with the opening goal for his 28th of the campaign from Halifax teammate Jonathan Drouin and Norris front-runner Cale Makar.

59 seconds later, Brock Nelson recorded his first goal in an Avs' sweater; his 21st of the regular season. Defender Sam Malinski had the primary assist; Martin Necas had the secondary assist.

A power play goal came next, 2:55 after the previous tally, by Makar for his 26th of the season caused by a Ridly Greig tripping infraction on the multi-point scorer. Drouin and my Avs' player to watch, Valeri Nichuskin, had the helpers.

Joel Kiviranta concluded the first period goal scoring with his 16th of the season 3:06 after the third goal from Ross Colton and Charlie Coyle.

Ullmark allowed 4 goals on 9 shots before Forsberg relieved him.

Period II

The fifth and final road goal came off the twig of Nelson for the second time this evening and 22nd of the year via Artturi Lehkonnen and Colton.

Period III

Dylan Cozens broke the shutout with his third goal with his new club; his sixth point with Ottawa in his seventh game. Tim Stutzle and Jake Sanderson had the assists on the powerplay goal from the Keaton Middleton interference infraction.

Players to Watch

Nichuskin had an assist in 17:21TOI and a +1.

Drake Batherson was a -1 in 14:47 TOI with 2 shots and hits.

Goaltenders

Scott Wedgewood allowed one goal on 16 shots for a 0.938 save percentage.

Anton Forsberg allowed one goal on 20 shots faced for a 0.950 save percentage.

Linus Ullmark allowed 4 goals on 9 shots for a 0.692 save percentage.
