I don't know that there is any precedent for that. I do know that Weber can't go anywhere else for a year. A team could play hardball and not give in to a movement clause in the deal. If Weber doesn't sign the deal, he's out 13M. But I find it hard to beleive that a player of Weber quality won't have a movement clause. - MJL
Usually a NMC is used as a means of getting a player to take somewhat less salary for accepting the NMC (I know you obviously already know this). In the case of the offersheet, the salary is already set and Nashville gains nothing by giving one to Weber. All they lose is potential trade partners if they ever want to move Weber in the future for whatever reasons those could turn out to be. I guess they could give him one "out of respect" or something, but it doesn't necessarily further the needs of the franchise at this point. |

God I hope not, Carbomb ain't the only one wary of Leighton's play since the finals. I still get panic attacks whenever someone breaks in on him. - flyler
I am sure Bryz will give him a few pointers |

I would not say that usually a NMC is used as a means of getting a player to take somewhat less. Top players and top Free Agents get top money along with movement clauses.
But in some cases, lesser players will take a lower deal in exchange for the security of a movement clause. so your right in that aspect. |

I think this year we will find out what Jordan Staal really is offensively. He'll be the #2 center behind his bro which is a far cry from being #3 in line behind Sid and Geno. Obviously he has opportunities with Malkin & Crosby being in and out of the line-up the past 3 years but he has been hurt too. His PPG have gone up the last years as well (0.71 in 10/11 which is 58 points per 82 games & 0.81 in 11/12 which is 66 points per 82 games).
So basically, Staal has more offensive upside than it seems IMO. More than 50 points per year at least. - NickTheKid87
i agree...that guy has dominant 30 goal scoring ability to go along with his 2 way play (which is really his strongest asset) i see late Hurricanes era Keith Primeau all the way with that guy |

The only way I see a Ryan deal now, would be if Nash doesn't match and takes the 4 picks... Only then can I see a deal for Ryan. I think a signing by Doan would be more likely. |

i think he was just talking about NEWS coming today (aka them saying they WILL match, as Bill said)
then the next couple days will be Holmgren figuring out the pieces to send back to Nashville |

if weber get signed does tat mean doan would be more inclined to come here? Do we become the defacto favorites for a cup run next year? |

Could be, I think Doan knows where he wants to go and its not us. Nothing to base it on, just a feeling..... |

God himself would have to play on the Flyers for them to be picked by the media as a CUP favorite. Apaprently our reputation cannot be shaken. We are the bad guys remember? *insert Empire music here* |

Indeed However i agree it will mostly be news about the matching. Still think Weber stays. Doan out west. Ryan here by Friday. I said Wednesday for Ryan since the beginning of the OS but I really thought it would have been done last night or early this morning |

dude...am a big fan of your writing...always outstanding work
but if i were poile, no way...no way you give up a franchise d-man for voracek, mezaros, whomever else you mentioned, and one first rounder...
philly holds all the cards in a two step trade...screw them...it would be better for nashville to bite the bullet rather than accept crumbs from a franchise that just stomped all over them
just sayin' |

If I'm trading the Schenn bros for two 1st rounders back, one of the those firsts better be Nashville's 2014...
Something that hasnt been mentioned that I could see happening, is that Nashville doesnt match. In exchange, we let them keep the firsts and trade them say Jake and Mezzy for say a third rounder.
Nash: Jake V, Mezzy, 4 1st's
Philly: Weber, 3rd
If I'm Nashville Idk how I could turn this down. |

No way do I give them the 4 first along with Voracek and Meszaros. The whole idea of giving them players for not matching is to get some of those 4 first round picks back. |

Agreed. Just something I could see happening. Homer wants Weber, we all know that. He also doesnt wanna part with Schenn or Cooter. This allows him to do so. That is also a deal that I would do if I firmly believed Nashville is going to match, and even at that I would have to think about it for awhile. I would probably take out Jake, but that deal above would be my final offer doing it that way. |
