The Rangers are worse after this trade. Both for the present and the future. Less depth, less grit, and a contract that is rapidly depreciating in value. |

As much of a steal as this was for the rangers, i think its gonna cause chemistry problems in the locker room...Nash is going from a completely pampered environment to you must block shots with your face...I think he destroys that team. Torts will be on his last year of coaching over there. - Philly1980

you know what, looking at the rangers' roster, they don't really scare me anymore. sure they'll have the best 1st line in possibly the whole league, but i don't see a whole heck of a lot of scoring for them beyond that. - flyerscup2011
Its not the offense of the Rangers that ever worried me.
The D and goaltending are their strength. |

All true. And all the more reason for Howson to tell Nash if you want to be moved, you better be more agreeable to go to more teams. Because I'm not giving you away. The first round pick is likely a late first round pick. I'm not sure about Erixson. But Columbus didn't get a single top player in return for Nash. In my view, even considering the circumstances. It is a poor return. - MJL
a 40 point player, a 45 point player, a top D prospect, and a first for a grossly overpaid 60 point winger. |

I would disagree . The Flyers got the 8th overall pick in the draft, which turned out to be Couturier. Who has stud written all over him. And a tremendously talented playwer in Voracek who was taken 7th overall. The best asset Columbus got in return was Erixson. And they got two 2nd tier 2/3 rd line players. Not even close in my view. Unless Erixson turns into a star. And they score big with the first rounder. |

Nash should score 40+ goals with Richards (and when healthy, Gaborik). yeah, their depht and grit goes down with out Anisimov and Dubinsky....but a legit top scoring LW helps your team more than 2 6-9 forwards.
the x factor of big goals and having to constantly match up against what might be the best line in hockey overshadows a lot IMO |

Coots and V > Nash - Richieattack18
couldn't agree more.
but at the time of the trade, a young winger, a first (have to forget about what coots did since the time he was picked) and a third for carter is not as good as two young forwards, a top d prospect, AND a first |

In the right situation, Nash is more then a 60 point Winger. If he plays with a player like Brad Richards. You could be looking at 40 + goals, and 80+ points. Nash has never played with a Center as talented as Richards. And certainly for those numbers, 7.8 isn't overpayment. |

Agreed I was really upset to see that they got nobody of that blueline I was sure Del Zotto or Mcdoungh had to be part of this trade but I guess I was wrong....I basically taking this as Howsons resignation |

Depth and grit can be replaced far easier then obtaining a player of Nash's caliber. |

You can't factor in who the Flyers got with the 8th overall pick in your evaluation.
Voracek was an underachieving forward when traded. Stagnant for a couple of years. It's not like he was a budding superstar at the time. |

If you're going to give a player $7.8 million/year, you can get a player of that caliber easily. Go sign Doan and Semin instead. |

one thing i will say....is everyone praised the hell out of shero for the staal trade. is this that much different? is sutter THAT far ahead of both dubinsky and anisimov?
i'm not sure i'm completely with you guys on this, but i see your point. and it does seem like there's a lot of exaggerating as to how bad this is |
