Weber is not important at the moment...they had to:
Sergei Kostitsyn has signed a two-year, $6 million deal with the Nashville Predators, avoiding arbitration.
The 25-year-old winger recorded 17 goals and 43 points in 75 games for the Predators last season. In 10 post-season games, Kostitsyn notched a goal and an assist in 10 games.
The former seventh-round draft pick has spent the past two seasons in Nashville after he was traded from the Montreal Canadiens.
In 307 NHL games, Kostitsyn has 64 goals and 161 assists. |

ok. so when rick nash only scored 26 goals this year and the blue jackets are a much better team, will you come back and say the BJs fleeced the rags? - OrangeBlack27
Sounds like a feminine problem to me |

does this actually drop the value of Bobby Ryan to the point where MAYBE Holmgren feels even MORE comfortable standing pat on the Weber deal?
if he calls Nash's bluff, and they do sign....Flyers could send Reed and a 1st for Ryan
i still like the defense w/o Weber, and Ryan would be the top RW they were looking for....
AND you still have plenty of cap space
AND AND AND....Pronger for the playoffs!!!!

It's just a feeling. Ryan is more of a practical match for Giroux. Both are young and can grow together and he is signed to a reasonable cap for next 3 years, I think. Better fit than Nash or Semin in my opinion. Rather have Ryan than Nash, Semin or Doan. Only my silly opinion - Deasr1
i agree with this... rather have ryan.... i just feel read, MAB and a pick isnt getting him |

but for real, how do you factor in Couts when evaluating that trade. No one had any clue he'd drop that far - Crimsoninja
Because it's the 8th pcik. Even if it wasn't Couturier and it was another player. The chances at that slot of getting a player that is better then Dubinsky or Anisimov is very good. |

I think the Rangers are going to have a great 1st line, but after that it gets thin. Scoring was spotty after the 1st line last year, take away 2 players from that and it's likely worse unless Kreider comes and becomes a 2nd line player right away. Also thier defensive is going to suffer big time. They lost Prust, Dubinsky, and Fedotenko... Who is going to pick up that slack? Aaron Asham?
I think thier young defense is going to get exposed like never before, and Hank is going to have a dreadful year. I'm not sure what you guys are afraid of. We beat a much deeper and better team in the Penguins in the playoffs last year. We can take the new Defenseless Rangers. - RooNosHockey
did the rangers loose mdz, staal, girardi or mcdonagh in this deal? don't think so. Stralman is ok, i'm not expect him to turn into bobby orr. Bickel is a good 7th defensman, so i think the rangers neeed a guy like jurcina. but defenseless? Give me a break, this is laughable. |

That's not going to happen IMO, but it would depend on how the players they recevied fare in Columbus.
Trades are always judged down the road. |
