Dubinsky Anisimov = Voracek Mez
A different package, but yes in that sense it's very close, but I don't see where Sather had it over Howson to say take it or leave it, he was more concerned with quantity than quality in that deal, and the more bodies he received, regardless of such. - puckhead17
The reason Sather had it over Howson is:
1. Nash has a NMC, and he provided a list of 5 teams he'd waived to go to. They were NYR, Philly, Pittsburgh, San Jose and Toronto.
2. Each of the suitors that wasn't the Rangers had some sort of fatal flaw. Toronto doesn't have the NHL ready talent. Pittsburgh does, but the point in getting Nash was to solidify the top line, not take from it. The Flyers were engaged in Weber. San Jose has tempting players, but the only thre forwards of significance without NTC/NMC were Pavelski, Couture & Clowe. Two of those three would be non starters if I was San Jose.
The Rangers had a bevy of young NHLers to pick from, they had no cap entanglements or issues with trade clauses.
3. Size and length of Nash's deal. Nash has six more years left on his deal, and his salary actually goes up towards the end.
That basically left the Jackets with one real trade partner, or the option to hang on to Nash and let it drag out further. |

agreed,
Big difference in the situations we're comparing, they can say they'll match all they want, but, here you go, Howson deals Nash so he doesn't female dog & moan?
Well what about Poile claiming to match &, as well, wouldn't he have an unhappy player in Weber on board playing 30 minutes a night without much support?? - puckhead17
Yeah. The big difference is Nashville's time is finite. The must decide by Wednesday. Columbus could have waited 6 years. |

very good points sir!!
I just couldn't see him staying & sulking if he wasn't moved, all the while having a very short list to begin with.
As well, if a team such as Columbus would be apprehensive hanging on to him for these potential issues, then Nashville would/should have it worse matching & keeping Weber, as Columbus, at this point, has more pieces in place than the Preds & regardless of the $ weber is earning, he has almost very little supporting cast to play with.

Edit If I really want out that bad I can just tell them what I used to do for a living and then tell them how cops don't lie. I might never get asked to jury duty again |

If Nashville matches, they keep Weber, who says he'd be OK with staying. Nash asked out months ago. The GM delayed and delayed and turned it into a farce. Who knows how long Nash would play the good soldier while the years drifted away?
We also have no idea why there was an abrupt course change. Perhaps ownership said, "We're tired of this, make a deal." It certainly seemed that the Jackets were holding out until they got a Logan Couture or Steppan.
The fact does remain that they got two solid NHLers, both perfectly capable of being top 9 or even top six forwards if the continue to mature and develop or simply bounce back from a bad year in the case of Dubinsky.
I think, all factors taken into consideration, it's not a terrible deal for the Jackets. It's not a great one, and the Rangers certainly got the best player, but if Dubinsky bounces back to being a 20-24 goal pain in the ass to play against, Anisimov steps up and develops into a good playmaking 2nd line center, the Jackets will have depth. |

But you don't trade an all star player, and one of the top goal scoring Forwards in the League, to get depth. Depth can be gotten every off season. You trade a player like Nash, to get building blocks for the future. Especially if your a team like Columbus who is floundering. I don't know a whole lot about Erixson. But he better develop, and they better get a pretty good player with the first rounder. Or else this deal is an awful deal, in my opinion. And from what I'm reading. The deal isn't being looked on favorably around the NHL for Columbus |

they'd have the pleasure of paying weber 27 million dollars and then moving him. limited number of teams would be able to take on that contract, and his return would probably be less than what they can get now with the picks - either from the flyers or another team. |

I do agree, as I stated, Dubinsky is a much better player than what he's shown last year, I just feel that the 2nd player should have been a little better, than AA & Erixon combined, but again, we don't know what was really pushing this thing to fruition, as well, the 5 team list was pretty ridiculous to work with. |
