To Nash: Couturier, Meszaros, 1st
To Philly: Not matching the OS, 3 1sts
Am I crazy to think this is reasonable for a franchise D-man signed to a relatively friendly cap hit in his prime years? And you get to obviously keep Voracek this way.
I'm just trying to be somewhat realistic. I don't think Voracek and Meszaros get it done, and I'm not so sure stepping up the offer isn't worth what's coming back. - eayost
I'd really prefer not to let Couts go. I think if Homer was willing, this'd be done by now. Even Schenn10, I'd be ok with to an extent. |

I feel that the Schenn brothers have more potential than Jake and Mesz. It would be a higher price to pay, IMO - Jsaquella
Higher price to pay yes, but you have to give up value to get value sometimes. Regardless, I would shy away from moving the Schenn bros for two reasons: 1) they have more potential than Jake and Mesz and 2) I LOVE the idea of having brothers on the team. |

I think people forget that Dmen like Weber (even a step down) are at an absolute premium in the NHL. At his age, with what he brings to the table.. the worst case scenario to me is that we don't get him. If he ends up here, it makes the FLyers a legitimate contender IMO. Even if we have to plug some holes after a trade. - Hextall271
Yep. Getting a 26 year old Norris level defenseman, who IMO is the best all around defenseman in the NHL, bar none is a major coup. That's not a knock on Meszaros, Voracek or any of the other names talked about.
But imagine a younger, more mobile Pronger with a bigger shot. Because that's basically what Weber is. |

Right Bill, but would Nashville have accepted that before the OS?
I'd say absolutely no. - LordStanley88
Probably not, but there wasn't a $26M real-dollar spending component before the OS or an agent making noise that his client prefers the OS team to a match. |

I'd be OK with moving them, although I think it's a bigger price to pay-and it also makes it harder to fill spots in FA, as the Schenns makes less than Voracek and Mesz would. |

I agree. I would also like to keep the Schenn Bros. over Couturier too. I just have a better feeling about B.Schenn. I think people have forgot what this kid can do after being woo'ed by Couturier's rookie year. This kid is a winner at every level. Posts amazing numbers. I cant wait to see a healthy year of him. And L.Schenn isnt chopped liver either... |

I feel that Brayden Schenn is very comparable to Couturier, but I give a very slight nod to Couturier because right now he does have more value around the NHL. |

What would happen is, the Flyers and Preds make an agreement that the Preds will not match the offer sheet, and as soon as the draft pick become Predators' property, they Flyers would agree to trade the players to Nashville to recoup the picks that went to Nashville as Weber compensation.
In the paper, it would be two transactions:
Nashville declines to match Philly's offer sheet.
Philly trades players x.y and z to Nashville for 2 1st round draft picks. - Jsaquella
Poile and Holmgren are honorable men. They work out the framework of what they want to do and then they actually fill in the detail. You know that Poile wants and will settle for one player in particular, say Couturier or Schenn. That is where all the discussion and focus is taking us. Once that is decided (or not decided) it is pretty easy for them to fill in the blanks from there. I believe they already know exactly what will get the deal done for both of them. |

Well I agree with that no doubt, but is it enough to walk away from Weber if it comes down to Nashville demanding those 2? |

Personally' I'm higher on Couturier than B. Schenn and I get sense most hockey people would agree -- and that's no reflection on Schenn. |

The longer this drags out, the more inclined I am to think that Nashville doesn't match. - bradleyc4
kinda feel the same way. they could just be screwing with holmer, but they'd be doing the same to their captain, as well. maybe just stalling to try and eek out best return in a gratton scenario. |

If we are talking about redrafting them, I agree Couts will draft ahead of Schenn. But there is something in Schenn that I like that Couts doesnt have.. at least yet. Schenn is physical and has some sandpaper to his game. Mix that with his scoring touch, defensive play.... and yes, his brother, and I think that is a winning combination.
I would rather send Couturier and Meszaros and know we are sending 1 stud to Nashville then to send Schenn and Schenn and know that we are possible sending them 2 studs. (not a shot at Mez, and I would rather not send either.) |

Maybe, but his back surgery gives me pause, and Ill bet it gives Nashville pause as well when discussing a possible trade deal.

No I'm not. I like Mez, but I don't think his potential is as high as Schenn's. Mez's current play is better then Schenn right now, but IMO Mez is close to reaching his peak. |

I believe you are in error. The CBA defines an offer sheet in the context of a contract. You cannot recontract a contract. The agent suggested an appendix might be added to the agreement to deal with a NMC. When I heard that, I chuckled and thought gotcha. He has since disappeared and has not said a word. I am sure Holmgren never offered a NMC, his legal people would have had a heart attack, I believe it will not be spoken about by anybody over the next few days.
You cannot have a side deal to an offer sheet. It would be a clear violation of the CBA. - spatso
I beleive it is you that is in error. Simply go to the CBA and look at Exhibit 6.
An Offer Sheet is not an SPC. And putting a movement clause in Weber's contract is not a side deal, nor is it a renogotiation. Right now there is an Offer Sheet, and that's it. There is not an SPC between Weber and either team.
